Since pools and manipulation have been banned, it is not possible to say that "the insiders" are acting in concert to drive this stock up and that one down. We are left, then, to conjure with the coincidence of a great many impulses to sell or to buy, stirring in enough stockholders across the country to affect the market's course. This can happen. Market analysts, investment counselors, students and theorists, and assorted experts are constantly seeking an edge, but the fact is that there is a preponderence of agreement among them much of the time. There are only so many stocks. There is only so much information available about them.
